Sunday Acronymn - S.T.A.Y

S et goals for your family and check on them weekly

T alk to your children and find out what’s on their minds. Are they being bullied, are they unhappy, etc.

A dvise your children that you are here for them no matter what. Remind them that they can come to you at all times. You may be disappointed but you will always love them.

Y ank them when you need to...”spare the rod, spoil the child!” There’s a difference between a spanking and a beating.  Never discipline while angry...instead take a deep breath, go out of the room, then come back and discipline them with love! My Mom used to gently grab our faces and say, I love you but I don’t like you right now so be gone from me!” Sometimes we have to bring out “Mr. Do Right!” and for teenagers, we can be even more creative with give me those car keys, no dance or basketball game, etc. Just be consistent!

Bonus: As we approach the holidays, let’s be creative. My cousin Akia posted on her Facebook page a great idea...wrap up 24 books and have your child open one a night and read with them during the holidays. This could be the start of establishing a pattern or habit!
